Melaleuca trichophylla (Honey Myrtle)
Melaleuca trichophylla is a compact to medium shrub native to south-west Western Australia, widely valued for its fine, needle-like foliage and long-lasting pink to purple bottlebrush flowers. Flowering can occur over an extended period from spring through summer (and often beyond), making it one of the more consistently showy melaleucas in cultivation.
The foliage is soft in appearance and aromatic, forming a dense, rounded plant that works well as a feature or in mixed plantings. Compared with coarser melaleucas, Honey Myrtle has a lighter texture and a more refined look, which suits both informal and more structured garden designs.
Adapted to well-drained soils and full sun, Melaleuca trichophylla is reliable once established and performs well in garden conditions. Its natural density and flowering response make it easy to maintain at a manageable size.
