Hakea nitida (Frog Hakea)
Hakea nitida (Frog Hakea)
Hakea nitida is a distinctive shrub to small tree endemic to south-west Western Australia, valued for its unusual foliage, angular branching, and strong sculptural presence. Its stiff, narrow leaves and textured form make it a striking feature plant in a wide range of garden styles.
In spring, clusters of creamy-white flowers with prominent stamens are produced along the stems, attracting birds and insects. Frog Hakea is adapted to well-drained soils, performs reliably once established, and responds well to pruning, allowing its form to be shaped or maintained as required.
Its open yet structured habit lends itself to use as a standalone feature, where both form and flowering can be fully appreciated.
