Hakea obtusa (Blunt-leaved Hakea)

Hakea obtusa is a compact to medium shrub endemic to south-west Western Australia, recognised for its thick, blunt-tipped leaves and dense, rounded habit. The foliage is leathery and deep green, giving the plant a solid, robust appearance compared with finer-leaved hakeas.

Creamy white to pale pink flowers are produced in clusters along the stems, typically in winter to early spring. While the flowers are relatively understated, they provide an important nectar source for insects and small birds during the cooler months.

Naturally occurring on sandy and gravelly soils, H. obtusa is well adapted to free-draining conditions and exposed sites. Its compact form and toughness make it suitable for feature planting, low screening, or integration into mixed shrub plantings without becoming coarse or oversized.
